The Evansville Region: FUN FACT

Evansville is home to Angel Mounds. Located on the banks of the Ohio River in southwest Indiana, Angel Mounds State Historic Site is one of the best-preserved, pre-contact Native American sites in North America. Built between A.D. 1000 and 1450, the town was occupied by more than 1,000 people who were part of the Mississippian culture and included earthen mounds built to elevate important buildings.

Here’s what we’re loving about the Evansville Region:

  • Your Brother’s Bookstore: Brothers Adam and Sam have created a welcoming space right downtown (located down the block from the Children’s Museum and Lic’s Deli and Ice Cream). They’ve got great books, fun events, and even better stories. When you stop in, be sure to get a book recommendation from the guys!

  • Parlor Doughnuts: This doughnut shop is quickly growing (you’ll find shops in 12 states now) but it all started in Evansville! We love the shop that sits right downtown - great coffee, an amazing space, and some really delicious doughnuts.

  • Wesselman Woods: Looking for a forest bath in the city? Evansville’s got you! Wesselman Woods is the largest old-growth forest within any city limits in the United States. That would be cool on its own, but this nature preserve has great trails, great programming and a 5-acre nature playscape for kids (and grown-ups) to explore, take risks, and get messy. If you move to Evansville, you’ll get a free one-year membership AND an exclusive tour with the Executive Director!
