The Willard Public Library is the oldest public library building in the state of Indiana. Known for its stunning Victorian Gothic architecture, it operates independently of the county library system and houses an extensive genealogical archive.
The Library is also famous for its heavily documented "Grey Lady" ghost folklore benevolent spirit haunting the historic Willard Public Library in Evansville, Indiana, since 1937. Frequently identified as the founder's daughter, Louise Carpenter, she is known for harmless, mischievous activity like shifting books, adjusting furniture, creating cold spots, and appearing in the elevator.
