Race down the 850-foot luge track at Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park before skiing, snow-shoeing, or ice-skating along the shores of Lake Michigan. Tour Muskegon Lake aboard the Aquastar, or visit one of several maritime attractions, including the S.S. Milwaukee Clipper, a steamship and historic national landmark. Ponca City

Ponca City is named after the Ponca tribe, who relocated from Nebraska to northern Oklahoma from 1877 to 1880. 

Settlers claimed townsite certificates during the Cherokee Outlet Opening, and oil made it into today's thriving cultural center. With over 300 not-for-profit organizations, a Grand Arts District with multiple art galleries and over 100 murals, and plenty of options for hiking, hunting, and fishing, Ponca City has something to offer to everyone. Head out to the 101 Wild West Rodeo during the day, then mosey on over to the Poncan Theater for live performance and music. 

If you’re in the mood to get your art on, the Doodle Academy provides artistic learning and exploration—a haven to learn and grow for all doodlers and dreamers. Need somewhere to get away? Lake Ponca is an excellent destination to relax and get outside, plus it’s only a twelve-minute drive from downtown. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the Herb Festival, Oktoberfest, and the Ponca City Fox Hunt (don’t worry—they aren’t real foxes).

Paoli

As the county seat of Orange County, Paoli provides residents with plenty of outdoor recreation from enjoying a hike in Pioneer Mothers Memorial Forest to shredding the gnar at Paoli Peaks. Check out the third-oldest operational courthouse in Indiana, which affords an incredible view of Courthouse Square from its balcony. The surrounding Courthouse Square offers boutiques, antique stores, restaurants, and a barber shop. Enjoy a bite at the deli, join the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, and purchase local produce from Paoli’s co-op, Lost River Market & Deli. Keep an eye on their events calendar for upcoming farm-to-table dinners. Co-op makers produce many of the products sold there in the community kitchen — a resource for culinary entrepreneurs, bakers, caterers, and more — at the First Presbyterian Church of Paoli. About an hour northwest in Daviess County is Amish Country, where you can enjoy shopping, eating a family-style Amish dinner, or interacting with the Amish community. The annual PaoliFest celebrates music, art, and community with performances, jam sessions, and collaborative art-making. Visit the historic Lindley House, listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Imbibe at wineries on the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail. In nearby French Lick, check out the West Baden Springs Hotel’s immense atrium. City amenities and an international airport live just an hour away in Louisville, Kentucky.

Owensboro

Owensboro, Kentucky, sits in the crook of the bend of the Ohio River, which led 18th-century settlers to originally call it “Yellowbanks,” for the yellow sands located along the river. The long, hot summers provide outdoor enthusiasts plenty of opportunities for water sports, hiking, biking, or simply enjoying one of the area’s many parks. Nature enthusiasts might also enjoy the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden or visiting the World’s Largest Sassafras Tree. The city is also known for the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, and Owensboro Museum of Science and History. Wineries, distilleries, farms, and orchards offer tours, and the city hosts the Owensboro PumpkinFest each year. The Owensboro-Daviess Regional Airport is located just minutes from the business district in Owensboro. The airport offers flights to Sanford and Orlando, Florida, on Allegiant Airlines and to St. Louis and Nashville on Cape Air. The Louisville, Kentucky, airport is located less than 100 miles from Owensboro.

Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant is truly a gem located in the Northeast part of Texas – just a short two-hour drive from the Dallas-Forth Worth area. 

But why leave this beautiful “micropolitan” when everything you could possibly need (or want) is within city limits? Parkville

A historic city in Southern Platte County, Parkville is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Situated on the banks of the Missouri River, Parkville offers small-town living and community pride.
