Moving back to the U.S. while working remotely, I knew I could live anywhere in the country, which is what led me to MakeMyMove in the first place. I was living abroad in the UK at the time and evaluated and applied to a few different MakeMyMove programs, but the Tulsa Remote program was my top choice by far. It offered the most attractive, thoughtful, and inviting package for anyone looking to build a life in a new community.

I’ve lived in Tulsa for over a year now, and as someone who has moved around quite a bit, what stood out to me most was how Tulsa Remote handles the transition. My favorite way to describe it is like bringing a new fish home from the store: they keep you in the bag inside the tank to acclimate first before fully releasing you into the water. Between the built-in infrastructure, the endless activities, and moving in alongside a cohort of people who are in the exact same boat, you never feel like you're figuring it out alone.

Tulsa itself is a fantastic town with a culture all its own and a wonderful "big small town" feel. Beyond the incredible, James Beard Award–winning restaurant scene and local independent cinemas, there are so many eclectic spots to discover. One of my personal favorites is a local board game cafe, restaurant, and bar where you can play unlimited games from a library of over 1,000 for just $8 while enjoying great food and drinks. It’s such a uniquely Tulsa gem. On top of the local culture, the reasonable and affordable cost of living has been a game-changer for keeping my personal finances stable and stress-free.

When it comes to housing, my biggest advice is to take advantage of that affordability to secure a space that truly works for your daily routine, especially prioritizing a layout that gives you a dedicated home office. Because Tulsa is so easy to navigate, you don't have to stress about living in one hyper-specific block to feel connected to the action.

If I could give one piece of unfiltered advice to anyone starting tomorrow, it’s to take advantage of as many program activities and events as you possibly can. That first year will absolutely fly by, but if you jump in with both feet from day one, you’ll turn a new city into a real home before you know it.
