From the Emerald City to the Cream and Crimson

It has been just about a month since I moved from the Emerald City of Seattle, WA, where I lived for 21 years to the cream and crimson of Bloomington, Indiana, home of the National Championship football team, the Indiana Hoosiers. The Make My Move and Amplify Bloomington teams have been so helpful in making me feel welcome, at The Mill, a wonderful co-working space, and in Bloomington at-large. Haley at Amplify Bloomington sat down with me and was really present in hearing what my goals were and thinking of ideas to help me feel included and even connect with others who my help with my endeavors. Bloomington is not new to me, as I attended IU, but I have not lived here for over 35 years. I am enjoying the farmers market, the trails, the local co-op for food, cultural events, and trails to walk. I could not have made a better choice. My housing came down to two places - both were great in their own right. I chose to live a little farther out from the excitement of downtown, and I love it. The Fields is perfect for me - great amenities, quiet and still only 10-15 minutes away from campus or downtown. Shopping is practically walking distance. I suggest picking an array of locations, where you think you want to be and a few off the beaten path. You might just realize that you get more for your money father from campus or the square, while still being relatively close to them, and even on bus lines if you choose not to drive. I have already connected with the IU LGBTQ Alumni Association and am making connections.
