Standing atop Mount Sunflower

Despite the flat reputation of Kansas, Wallace County holds the highest natural elevation in the state. Mount Sunflower sits at 4,039 feet above sea level on a family owned ranch near the Colorado border. The landowners welcome visitors to drive out through the cattle pastures to reach the summit. At the top, you will find a picnic table, a little free library, a registration book, and a distinctive sunflower sculpture crafted entirely from welded railroad spikes.
