Watermelon Country

Knox County is the heart of Indiana’s watermelon industry, producing more than 70% of the state’s watermelon crop thanks to its nutrient-rich, sandy soil along the Wabash River. Each summer, the community celebrates this agricultural tradition during the Knox County Watermelon Festival, a two-day event in downtown Vincennes featuring live entertainment, local vendors, family activities, and plenty of locally grown watermelon. Together, the harvest and festival showcase one of the county’s most distinctive traditions.
