The Quality of People: Finding True Welcome in Rural Indiana

You never really know what “welcome” means until you land in a place like Perry County. This week, we’re excited to introduce two new neighbors: Robertico — pictured on the right in the photo with his son Derick — and Roshonda, who’s brought her own warmth and spirit from Georgia.

Robertico and Derick came to us from the Bronx trading the city’s constant buzz for quiet mornings, friendly nods, and a slower rhythm. Robertico still works his New York job remotely, but now he’s got room to breathe, sunsets to watch, and a community that feels invested in his story. He’s already dreaming bigger — hoping to dive into real estate, and savoring every new bite at local favorites like Fiesta Grande and The Patio Steakhouse. “I’m grateful for the peace, the people, and for PSC Fiber making sure I can stay connected to both old friends and new dreams.”

Then there’s Roshonda, who made her way from Georgia, looking for more than just a change of scenery. She found it in the small-town smiles, the gym like EverBody's Fun & Fitness Center where everyone says hello, and the kind of local events where strangers become friends. “Honestly, it’s the quality of people here in Tell City and Perry County that’s the best,” she told me. “Remote work gave me freedom, but this place gave me calm. The incentives made the move easier, but the community made me want to stay.”

Every new neighbor brings something real — new stories, new energy, and a reminder that what makes Perry County special isn’t just the landscape or the incentives. It’s the people.
