Sister Stephen and the Llamas

Cristo Rey Ranch is a 300-animal sanctuary fifteen miles east of Fond du Lac in Mount Calvary, run by the Congregation of Sister Servants of Christ the King. It started with one animal and grew into a working menagerie: sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, donkeys, emus, peacocks, pot-bellied pigs, a lemur named Opie, and Patagonian cavies. The Sisters share the 120-acre property with the Villa Loretto skilled nursing home and Villa Rosa assisted living, and animal-assisted therapy is part of the ranch's mission. Self-guided admission is free. The annual "Adventures on the Farm" event runs each summer; the live Nativity runs the second weekend of December. Photo: Travel Wisconsin
