The Allure of Texarkana

Texarkana is the ideal destination for telecommuters seeking a vibrant yet affordable city with a unique character. Whether you're a seasoned remote worker or just starting out, Texarkana offers the perfect blend of Southern hospitality, affordability and a thriving community to make it your new remote work haven. But what truly sets Texarkana apart is its commitment to attracting and retaining talent through a generous financial incentive - showcasing its dedication to fostering a growing remote workforce community.

Named one of “America’s Most Welcoming Places”

Texarkana has also earned national recognition for this very effort. In 2024, MakeMyMove named Texarkana one of America’s Most Welcoming Places, a distinction that highlights the city’s outstanding commitment to attracting and retaining new residents via strategic relocation programming and inclusive community integration.

According to the city’s announcement, the program spearheaded by AR‑TX REDI under the leadership of Rob Sitterley, in partnership with the City of Texarkana and the Patterson Troike Foundation, has already received over 6,800 applications from across the U.S. since its launch.

One of the highlighted strengths of the program was the dual-state nature of Texarkana: newcomers can choose between Texas (with no state income tax) or Arkansas (with a lower cost of living) while being part of this one region, a flexibility that makes the location especially appealing.

Incentives that Make Moving Possible

MakeMyMove, a one-of-a-kind remote worker relocation platform, streamlines the relocation process, connecting telecommuters with housing options, community resources and a network of fellow remote professionals. Through this partnership, Texarkana’s incredible incentive package is valued at over $18,000 and is available to remote workers who meet certain eligibility criteria, sweetening the deal for aspiring residents. The package includes:

  • Cash Relocation Assistance - A lump sum payment of $5,000 to help cover the costs of moving to Texarkana.

Meet Sarah and Colin: A Relocation Success Story

A compelling example of Texarkana’s relocation program in action comes from Sarah and Colin, two remote professionals whose move captures the human side of this growing trend.

When Sarah first discovered MakeMyMove, she was ready for a change. “My lease in Longview was coming up, I work from home, and I wanted to be somewhere with more opportunity to get involved,” she said. “Texarkana checked all the boxes.”

At the same time, Colin was exploring housing options of his own. What began as Sarah’s curiosity soon became a shared adventure. “It just kind of worked out,” he said.

Both applied individually through the Texarkana relocation program. Sarah used her cash incentive to secure a new apartment, while Colin applied his toward purchasing his first home - an opportunity, he noted, that’s increasingly rare in today’s market. “For the price you’re paying, you can go to Texarkana and get a significantly better home for less,” he said.

Once settled, they wasted no time getting involved. Sarah joined the board of Meals on Wheels, eager to contribute to her new community, while Colin connected with other young entrepreneurs and found himself impressed by the responsiveness of city leadership.

“You can feel that growth is possible here, and the opportunities are endless - it just takes people willing to get involved,” Sarah said. Colin agreed, adding, “Texarkana feels up and coming. There’s a real focus on redeveloping downtown.”

Their move didn’t just mark the start of a new chapter professionally; it also deepened their personal story. Not long after relocating, the couple got engaged, signaling not just a new home, but a long-term commitment to a community they’re proud to call their own.

Colin and Sarah have made Texarkana their new home as they plan for their future.

Eligibility

To qualify for the Texarkana incentive package, applicants must meet several criteria, including:

  • Being a full-time remote worker or self-employed with a minimum annual income of $60,000.
  • Maintaining primary residency in Texarkana for at least one year.
  • Must relocate primary residence to Bowie County, TX or Miller County, AR within 6 months.

A Growing Hub for Remote Talent

As remote and hybrid work continue to reshape the American workforce, Texarkana is seizing the moment to attract skilled professionals seeking space, affordability, and connection. With its strong incentives, affordable housing, and genuine Southern hospitality, the city is positioning itself as a regional leader in talent attraction and a model for how mid-sized communities can thrive in the remote-work era.

For those looking to start a new chapter in a place that welcomes you with open arms and a few extra perks - Texarkana just might be the perfect fit.
