I just moved from Eureka, CA where I've been living for the last 7 years. I moved to Richmond in July 2026, so I’m still new to the community. Even in this short time, though, Richmond has started to feel less like a place I moved to and more like a place I could truly call home.

Moving from Eureka, California to Richmond was a big change for me. I was leaving behind a place I had known for a long time, along with the familiar people, landscape, and lifestyle that came with it. Making a move across the country can be intimidating, and there were definitely moments when I wondered what starting over would feel like.

What has surprised me most is how quickly Richmond has begun to feel welcoming. People are friendly, genuine, and willing to help. There is a strong sense of community here that I really appreciate. I also love the combination of Richmond’s history, beautiful surroundings, small-town character, and affordability. Coming from California, I was amazed at how much more attainable housing and everyday life can be here.

Most of all, I’m excited about the feeling that I’m beginning a new chapter. Richmond feels like a community where you can slow down, get to know your neighbors, become involved, and actually feel like you belong. I’m looking forward to discovering more of the area and continuing to build a life here.

**Housing search advice for those considering a move**

My advice is to give yourself time to explore Richmond before choosing a home. Don’t just look at a house online, drive through the neighborhoods, visit the downtown area, explore the parks, and talk to people. Get a sense of what different parts of the community feel like.

Coming from California, I was used to housing prices that could make finding the right home feel almost impossible. Richmond gave me a completely different perspective. There are opportunities to find a comfortable home without sacrificing your entire financial future.

And I would encourage anyone considering the move to keep an open mind. Moving somewhere new can be uncomfortable at first, especially when you’re leaving behind everything familiar. But sometimes a big change is exactly what you need. For me, making the move from Eureka to Richmond has been an exciting new beginning, and I’m very glad I took the chance.
