Things to Do

Gasthof Amish Village sits in Montgomery, Indiana. The GPS says turn. The road says gravel. Then the village appears out of the farmland. Inside waits a huge homemade buffet with hand breaded fried chicken, roast beef au jus, chicken and dumplings, and baked ham. Sides stack up with creamy mashed potatoes peeled by hand, noodles and dressing made from scratch, and a big salad bar with German potato salad, apple salad, and three bean salad. Fresh baked bread pairs with apple butter and peanut butter spreads, and dessert brings cobblers, cupcakes, cookies, and pies.

Shops sit around the grounds with the Blackberry Patch gift shop, a flea market, and places to wander before or after you eat. An attached bakery turns out cinnamon rolls and fresh bread for the next morning. An on site country inn adds room for a full weekend. Montgomery counts about 500 people, and this spot sits in the heart of Daviess County Amish country.
